Molluscum symptoms and molluscum rashSymptoms appear two to seven weeks to six months after contact with the virus. They arise early in the form of tiny painless papules that grow throughout the weeks to become small and hard protruding lesions in the white waxy and pinkish in the center of which a small crater can be formed. The papules may swell and become red, which is the natural reaction of the body against viruses. In children, these symptoms or these papules may appear on the face, body, legs and arms. In adults, these papules may appear almost anywhere on the body. If the viral infection is transmitted sexually, symptoms appear on the abdomen, groin, on the external genitals, on the buttocks or thighs. How is Molluscum rash spread?The infection can spread from one body part to another or from one person to another. It is transmitted by direct skin contact, by scratching the lesions or papules or touching objects contaminated by the virus, or during intercourse. Who is at risk?Anyone who had contact with the skin lesion of an infected person has a risk of infection. The infection may be more severe in people whose immune system is weaker. Although molluscum contagiosum is more common in children under ten years, however, the infection can affect everyone. Among young adults, molluscum contagiosum is primarily a sexually transmitted disease. Indications: control 2 to 4 weeks after initiation of treatment to monitor trends and look for new lesions.
