        Molluscum is actually warts that are easily transmitted by direct contact of skin to skin (unprotected penetration is not necessary). It is not necessarily sexually transmitted and can be located on the hands, buttocks, abdomen and face, most obviously in the genital area. Avoid handling or playing with injuries because they can become infected, or worse, multiply by self-contamination (spreading from one place to another on your body). A doctor will advise you not to shave the infected skin! Shaving the infected areas increases the risk of propagation and self-contamination, in addition to increasing the risk that the lesions become infected.

How does your doctor diagnosed molluscum skin?

        A simple examination of the skin is usually sufficient. In case of doubt, your doctor may examine molluscum microscopically,taken with a curette to confirm his diagnosis.

What is the natural evolution and prognosis of molluscum?

        Molluscum is a benign condition and it usually heals spontaneously. But when some molluscum disappear, others may occur on the skin by contamination of the surrounding skin. It may take six months to five years for all molluscum to disappear without definitive treatment. The extension of molluscum is sometimes higher in children with atopic eczema. The Reach of AIDS patients are more sensitive to that molluscum which can spread or reach a significant size.

Should we treat molluscum skin?

        Some doctors recommend not treating molluscum because they disappear spontaneously. In France, dermatologists recommand the favorable treatment for molluscum, in order to prevent the spread.
